Stay Informed This Winter: Weather Alerts and Notifications at Putnam County R-I Schools

Posted Date: 11/20/24 (10:28 AM)

Winter is just around the corner, and with it comes the potential for inclement weather. At Putnam County R-I Schools, we prioritize safety and clear communication. Stay connected about school closures, late starts, and other weather-related announcements by using our district communication tools.
Here’s how you can stay informed:

ParentSquare: Your Go-To Communication Tool

  • Download the ParentSquare app: Available for free on your smartphone.
  • Customize your notifications: Choose how you’d like to be notified—app alerts, email, text, or all three. (Reminder: If you have all of your notifications set to digest, you will NOT receive news updates until 6:00 pm.)
  • Update your contact information: If your phone number or email has changed, please contact your school’s secretary to ensure you’re receiving the latest updates.

Inclement Weather Notifications

In the event of bad weather, you will receive alerts through ParentSquare. Updates will also be posted on our social media pages and website.

Late Start Policy: What You Need to Know

When conditions allow, we may implement a late start for the safety of our students and staff. Here’s how it works:
  • Notification: We will send an alert via ParentSquare, specifying the delay. For example, a two-hour delay means school starts at 10:15 a.m.
  • Buses: They will run two hours later than usual. If your regular pickup is 7:15 a.m., it will be around 9:15 a.m. during a two-hour delay.
  • Arrival Times: Students may begin to arrive 20 minutes before the delayed start time (e.g., 9:55 a.m. for a 10:15 a.m. start).
  • SOAR Program: Will likely continue with regular hours unless otherwise notified.
  • Breakfast: Still available for students.
  • Dismissal: School will end at the regular time.
